Hey, peeps! This post is a continued post of the Penang trip. The night before I asked Chew to join me and Joyce for lunch. I don't know what had happened to my prehistoric cellphone as the alarm clock didn't ring at all that morning. I remembered setting it at 8.30am so that we could go for a swim before going out for lunch. If Joyce didn't wake me up, I would have slept till past noon.I was craving for Japanese food. When I thought of Japanese food, the first thing that popped in my mind was Sushi King. But, Joyce had a better suggestion - Sakae Sushi. Somehow, the name sounded familiar.
When the front view of the restaurant came into sight as the escalator slowly took us to the next level. There we were! Sakae Sushi. The frog logo suddenly made me recall that I did actually read a post about another branch of Sakae Sushi on Moi's blog.
The environment was more classy than Sushi King, and the ambience was more relaxing. What's more? There's a teppanyaki corner where your food would be grilled and pan-fried on the spot once the orders were made. The dark wood chairs with beige-coloured cushion and romantic lights gave a sophisticated touch.
Like Sushi King, Sakae Sushi has a variety of delectable sushi served on colourful plates carried by a conveyor belt. But, one thing that Sushi King doesn't have is that Sakae Sushi is fitted with emergent technologies like their interactive menu. Your orders are made with just a click away without having to wait for a waiter to come to your table. Besides saving your time, you can also save from making order mistakes. Cool, huh?
Me and Joyce had Hot Green Tea. That's her filling our cups with hot water with the tea bags in them.
Hot Green Tea.
First to arrive on our table after a short while was Salmon Sashimi, which was freshly cut and served on ice bag.
Chew's Ten Don came shortly. It was assorted tempura seafood and vegetables served with rice.
I'm a new-taste-seeker. I seek for new flavours and exotic tastes. So, I decided to pick something that didn't look common. This is Soft Shell Crab Crepe. The name sounded interesting but it didn't taste as good as I expected as I found the crepe was too dry and the filling was very little.
Ebiko. Something common and something you can have at Sushi King too :)
Another normal sushi served in any Japanese restaurant - Inari. I thought it was good as the golden, sweet tofu skin went very well with the salty Japanese soy sauce and the pungent wasabi. However, Joyce didn't like it as she thought that the skin was too sweet for her liking >.<
Saba Shioyaki. I tried saba once and I wanted to have more. Nicely grilled with their special sauce. I loved it! Chew said it tasted like Kembung fish. Haha! Come to think of it, it did!As an unagi (eel) fan, I was so tempted with the many unagi dishes served there that I had a few unagi dishes prepared in different ways.
Unagi Kabayaki. The portion looked MUCH smaller than it appeared on the menu =_=" But, we loved this one.
Unagi Maki. Tasted average...
Tofu Unagi. This was something very special. Slices of grilled eel stacked on top of tofu blocks and omelet, soaked in a bowl of light, salty and slightly sweet sauce. It's unexpected that they served this cold, but I liked it. The unagi was tender and the tofu was very smooth.
I wasn't satisfied after eating all of the above, I started scanning for more sushi on the revolving belt, waiting patiently and hopefully for some decent looking sushi to appear. Then, Chew got me this - Tempura Cheese Maki. Not too bad, although it's another maki wrapped with dry crepe XP I thought that this was very unique as they added cheese in it, which gave some fusion flavours to it.
The bill was RM99.90. Overall, the food was good and the price was reasonable. Personally, I think that Sakae Sushi is a much better and cooler place if you want to fish for sushi on a revolving belt.
